Link: Your Mind Blown: It’s illegal to be fat in Japan

Thanks to an anti-obesity law passed last year, Japanese salarymen across the nation are pulling up their shirts to have their guts measured… and if they’re overweight, they face consequences. If you’re male and your waist is over 33.5 inches, you’re considered fat. If you’re female, the…

Whether you want to believe it or not, this is a big reason why health care is retardedly expensive in the US.

Genuine question: What do freegans do when they start to age? Things slow down a lot, you have huge health care costs (in America at least), and it becomes harder to work. Do they die like in ‘the Giver’? Or have Obasute when they can’t pull their weight, like in ‘The Ballad of Narayama’ (this is sort of an ironic mentioning because in most Obasute stories the old are actually rewarded for their knowledge and experience and absolved from death)? I’m sure there are plenty of explanations for this, I was just wondering.

At this. Interesting to hear someone try to explain why the now passed health care bill is actually bad for everyone. From what I can hear, it’s not. It does however, sound bad for insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and rich people who care about paying taxes. Interesting note: eventually we’ll reach a point, like England, where 10% of the richest people will still use private health care services, much like 10% of the American population goes to private school. I guess we need to get to that point first before we can complain about it?
